File Transfer

The file transfer options are managed on the device - this being shown within the right-click context menu. The contents of this menu vary, depending on the software version used on the particular type of equipment.

For all devices with software versions lower than -650 (i.e. -601 to -649), the Read/Send Data Model options are displayed in the context menu.

For devices with software versions -650 or later they are hidden from the context menu.

For Px3x devices with software versions -650 or later, three menu options are inserted below the Extract All Configurations... option:

Depending on the current active connection, the availability of some of the menu options will change as follows:

Menu Option Active ConnectionAn active link between a computer and a device through which data can be sent. for Type
"Normal Serial" "File Transfer"
Extract All Records... Active (black) Inactive (grey)
Extract All Configurations... Active (black) Inactive (grey)
Extract Default Files... Inactive (grey) Active (black)
Extract Customized Files... Inactive (grey) Active (black)
Restart Device Inactive (grey) Active (black)

Important

The Send menu option will send different types of data, depending on the context in which it is selected.
If you are in the File Transfer Mode, and you select the Send menu option in connection with a System/Substation/Voltage Level node, the Send command runs but is restricted to working at the device level, which means that the information from the child will not be sent.
Also, if you are in the File Transfer Mode, and the system object you are dealing with (e.g. System/Substation/Voltage Level) has one or more child nodes, the menu options will be changed to make Send..., Extract All Records... and Extract All Configurations... unavailable (i.e. greyed out)

Description of these menu options.

"Send…" : with active file transmission connection:

The active connection is checked to establish whether file transmission is possible.

In this window, all files from the folders “Settings” and “BTC” are shown, which have an appropriate extension ("*.bbt;*.bsf;*.bmf;*.bcs;*.6??").

Initially no files are selected, but you can select the files (and folder locations) you wish to send by using check boxes.

The Send button becomes activated as soon as one or more files are selected.

Clicking the Send button downloads the files one after the other to the device.

When the last file has been sent, a command file is transmitted to the device, which instructs the device to check the files and then to move them to its target fixed folders.

The window is closed on completion of the file Send operation.

"Extract Customized Files…" :

The active connection is checked to establish whether file transmission is possible.

To see the contents of a folder, double-click on it. MiCOM S1 Studio then opens the folder and shows its contents in a new window. To select multiple files, use the mouse and/or the SHIFT/CONTROL buttons. You can also delete files using the Delete Selected Files button.

To extract the selected files, click the Extract Selected Files button.

The extracted files are put into the appropriate folder within the device structure in Studio:

If a file with the same name is already in the target folder, you are asked whether this file should be overwritten or whether the extracted file gets deleted.
