RIO and XRIO are XML-based standards used to define data to be used within a range of electrical protection devices. The term RIO means RelayA device that initiates the disconnection of part of an electrical installation, and / or operates a warning signal when a fault or abnormal condition occurs, with minimum disruption of service. May also be known as an IED. Interface by Omicron and the term XRIO is the Extended version of RIO. In providing the Export to RIO/XRIO Format function, the MiCOM S1 Studio software allows you to carry out device testing using the industry-standard Omicron software tools and techniques. These RIO/XRIO options provide a substantial benefit if you are involved in developing schemes which use more than one and/or multi-functional relays. This is because the Omicron software is designed for testing complex protection schemes and scenarios. You may use the Omicrom software to develop and test your own schemes; or you may use the services of a third-party commissioning companies. As well as developing and testing such schemes, they may also provide a compliance function testing service.
It is important to note that the MiCOM S1 Studio software may handle settings in different ways. the mandatory settings are exported directly into XRIO fields, whereas non-mandatory fields are exported into custom fields.
